Some comrades have suggested a template text on Venezuela. Of course things are moving fast, and you may need to adjust for changing events. Please tell us about results when you put this or similar motions on Venezuela.
Notes:
— That the US government has launched an unjust military attack on Venezuela,
bombing the capital of Caracas and kidnapping President Nicolas Maduro.
— That the president has repeatedly stated the US will “run the country”, and boasted
about using the invasion as an excuse to expand US oil operations in Venezuela.
— That Trump has also repeatedly made threats to the governments of Colombia, Cuba
and Iran in recent days.
— That the Maduro government has been a deeply unpopular, de facto military regime,
which relies on the suppression of opposition and falsifying elections.
Believes:
— That Venezuela, like all nations, has a right to self-determination, and the US is
denying that right by kidnapping the country’s president and enforcing their own
rule.
— That sanctions on Venezuela are unjust and harm the Venezuelan working class, and
should be removed.
— That there are no grounds for Maduro and his wife to be tried in American courts,
and they should be released.
— That the people of Venezuela should have the right to elect their own leader, free
from imperialist intervention.
— That the US plan to force Venezuela to accept its dictated policies is unjust, and must
be opposed.
— That workers’ movements worldwide are the force we should look to for social
change, not authoritarian leaders
— That the current Venezuelan constitution gives undue power to the president, which
has been used to crack down on dissident political voices.
Resolves:
— To call for the US to get out of Venezuela.
— To promote the voices of the independent, anti-Maduro left in Venezuela.
— To support calls for:
o The release of all Venezuelan political prisoners
o Free trade unions, freedom of the press and freedom to protest
o Freedom for left parties to operate
o The election of a constituent assembly, to replace the current Venezuelan
constitution
o An end to sanctions on Venezuela
Labour women’s conference stitch-up
The left CLP representatives on Labour’s National Executive report from the National Executive of 2 December that the staff forced through a decision to have a trans-exclusive women’s conference although the trade union reps “raised concerns regarding their inclusive women’s policies and felt that, if such a Conference were to go ahead, they would be unlikely to be able to send delegations”.

You may wish to adapt this text passed at the AGM of the rail union RMT
Calling on the Labour government and Labour politicians to:
1. Stop reflecting racist rhetoric about migrants;
2. Provide safe routes for refugees;
3. Place rebuilding community cohesion at the heart of its economic strategy, targeting public investment at struggling local economies, creating decent jobs and supporting trade union organising.
Defend and restore the right to protest
Text which you may find useful to adapt as a motion to your CLP
The government’s attempt to ban, and treat as terrorists, Palestine Action, is wrong, anti-democratic and counter-productive.
Doubling-down, as in the Home Secretary’s announcement of further restrictions on the right to protest, is doubly so.
We call on the Labour government to stop kow-towing to Trump, Reform UK, and the right wing media. Instead of restricting protest, it should reverse the Police Act 2022 and the Public Order Act 2023, which Labour opposed when the Tories put them through Parliament.
(Adapted from a motion put to Stretford and Urmston CLP)
